Sheri Schaller's 1996 Sportster
This 1200 Sportster isn't exactly a Big Dog, but it is a very good example of where they start; bone stock at 46 horsepower.
The first thing Sheri did was put on a set of Screamin' Eagle Hi Flo mufflers to let the exhaust "breathe" a little. Then she added the Screamin' Eagle Hi Flo air filter kit to let more air in to the motor. These fundamental changes are necessary for any Harley to make more horsepower: You have to move more air through the engine!
John installed a new ThunderSlide kit to give her smoother throttle response and better fuel metering. Sheri was happy with the performance gain accomplish by this step alone! The next step was to add a Dyna 2000 ignition module, which let her bike rev to 6,000 RPM where it still makes power. The end result was a 15 horsepower increase to 61 horsepower -no cam change or headwork yet- but something tells us either Vic (who has two bikes in the Big Dog Club) or Woody, our two favorite cylinder head guys will be getting a call when it gets too cold to ride in Missouri!
Note: One evening a bunch of us were at the drag strip during "Test and Tune" sportsman night, and Sheri made a few passes. She didn't do too bad for a drag strip beginner, and a "girl beginner" at that. Since she was the only female out of the bunch who had the "Kahunas" to try the drag strip out, she got plenty of support and instructions from the guys, and our hats are off to her. You probably won't catch Sandy on the drag strip but if Sheri can get Marty to buy a drag race bike she would gladly ride it and John has committed to be her tuner!........
